The biggest block strategic planning is half-assery. Here are some tips that will help your team make progress at virtually any endeavor.
When you don’t commit to strategic planning as a team and dig in, it’s virtually impossible to win. If you look at the world's greatest athletes, successful entrepreneurs, or anyone who is a master at their craft you will find that they made a commitment to daily excellence. Striving for excellence takes a daily commitment. Committing to team building excellence is what has shaped some of the most successful companies.
Creating a process for strategic planning will help you move from stuck to great. The calls, the research, the design, whatever it is that you are avoiding.
Break big projects into small steps. When you dwell on the daunting aspects of a project, you will only avoid even more. Instead, break it into small steps and focus on the next step. When the project is broke down it becomes less overwhelming. If you are working on web design and looking at the entire project, the pages, the posts, the graphics, and all the content of course you will avoid it. When it is broken down into manageable chunks then it is easier to commit to them and get them done. One by one, the steps add up to the journey.
In business and life, it seems like the things that we don't want to do is what would make all the difference. In sales, prospecting is what tends to be the most avoided. However, if you focus on the followup, honor your time commitments, and do a thorough discovery to ultimately close the deals.
Once you create the plan then it is time to measure and adapt then get back to work.
Sometimes we are so focused on what we don't want to do that we don't do what we need to do. Thus the need for Strategic Planning. As Nike says, “Just do it”. The time is now to commit and follow through to achieve excellence.
