Wellness Rituals. When there is something you know you need to do, for example prospecting for new clients as a salesperson, it’s very useful to connect that process to a reward. For example, if you love your 10 am coffee. Make sure it’s connected to a 9 am power hour of dialing for new opportunities. You reward yourself for your power hour of prospecting with a 9 am coffee. When you connect rewards like this to the activities, you know you need to do; you rewire your pleasure centers in your brain. It helps to identify a few types of tasks first then add things you love to them. Here are a few real-world examples that I have used to improve my life and work.
Each morning I wake up and do what everyone else does. I brush my teeth, shave, take a shower.... But I also do a 12-minute superset, 30 pullups, 30 chin-ups, 200 jumping jacks, 100 burpees, and 100 pushups. That may not sound like a reward, but for me, it is a crazy reward. Each time I finish, it's like getting an "A" on a report card. I am not saying everyone should have my workout, maybe your thing is yoga and meditation. Whatever it is make sure you get an "A" early in the morning.
Every other day I run a 5k approximately. That started out very boring and inconsistent until I started doing it on the beach. I love the beach so changing my run to a location that I absolutely love anchored in the whole process.
I prep a high percentage of my meals. This serves two purposes, one it anchors me to my food choices and two making 4-10 meals at a time allows a consciousness around health that waiting until the last minute makes it difficult.
It makes mealtime really easy and lets my body get used to a certain amount of high-quality food. Finally, it's very inexpensive to eat extremely high-quality foods. Needless to say, every time mealtime comes I feel completely aligned.
The results of these rituals is a complete almost effortless transformation of my health. What rituals do you need to add to drive you toward your goals in a seemingly effortless way?
