Personal success story. As some of you know, I run 3 miles every other day and have what most would consider a very intense and strict work out. I fit more in a 12-minute daily super-set, than most people do in an hour at a gym. I will get to the details in a minute, first let's talk about how to make anything that’s currently hard, easy. Success always looks like it came naturally or easy, but rarely is either.
Do What You Can Do Fairly Easily
Sustainable success beats a one time push every time. When I first started running, I could only run about 100 yards, before my heart rate went crazy. So that’s what I did. The same was true for body weight exercises. So I ran my 100 yards, then walked a bit, ran my hundred yards again until I got where I am today. If you push too hard, it’s incredibly difficult to do anything consistently. Success comes from repetition and celebrating the increments This is true in as personal success as business or finance.
The Increments are the Entire Battle
Celebrate each incremental success. Train your mind to love progress and you will make much more of it. I used to always get caught up in the I am not there yet blues. When you track success and celebrate small successes every single day, you literally hack the process. Do as much as you can, but not more than you can consistently and celebrate. When I first started my body weight exercises, I could only do 3 sets of one pull-up and those were bad form. Content was the same way, videos and taking pictures is not natural at all for me. Depending on when you read this, you will be seeing drastically different content, photos, and videos. Either way, though, I will be taking the actions.
Have a Giant End Goal
Something that will absolutely get you amazing results without question. There is nothing worse than a success that won’t even move the needle. Like paying rent. How are you supposed to muster your most powerful self when all you get as a reward is to squeak by at the end of the month? Make achieving your goals mean something. Hint if you say to yourself I am going to make this happen and you immediately believe it, your goal is lacking.
When you are pushing toward something big that you have never achieved, there's no way to immediately believe you can do it. When every part of you tells you it's not possible, you are on the right track. I told myself i would get my abs thousands of times before i actually believed it. With the right goals, your mind and everyone else will call you a liar at first. We have been repeating what we can't have so long that conditioning has taken over. Now is the time to take control of that and channel it into a better you.
Do Something Difficult Early in the Morning. Starting Strong is Incredibly Powerful
By doing difficult work very you rewire your day literally. You prove to yourself that you have the will to be successful and that ripple through the rest of the day. I do my 12-minute workout before I leave the house. I do my most difficult work tasks right when I get into the office. Everyone knows the first hour or so I get into the office is off-limits except in emergencies.
My 12-minute workout is now 30 pull-ups, 30 chin-ups, 100 pushups, 100 burpees, and 200 jumping jacks. It took me six months to be able to do this workout by following the steps outlined above.
Bonus item, when I started doing something physical consistently early in the morning, my productivity went through the roof.
